Fed's Unclear Inflation Metrics Could Send Bitcoin Soaring to $68k
The Federal Reserve's policy framework is still unclear to investors as they try to determine what inflation metrics Chairman Kevin Warsh will use to inform his decisions. The Fed has created five monetary-policy task forces to help rebuild its inflation lens, but it's not clear how much weight Warsh will assign to each metric.
The current dashboard shows a range of readings from 1.5 percentage points above the 2% target, including headline PCE at 3.7%, core PCE at 3.3%, and trimmed-mean PCE at 2.2%. If Warsh treats the lowest reading as the best evidence of underlying inflation, it could give him room to hold off on a September rate hike.
This scenario would be bullish for Bitcoin, which has been trading near $63,000. If the Fed trusts the 2.2% metric, Bitcoin could break through $65,300 and potentially reach $68,000 as liquidity opens up for the asset.
