Fidelity Enters Stablecoin Market with Treasury-Backed Token
Fidelity Investments will launch its first stablecoin, FIDD, on February 1. The token will be backed by cash, cash equivalents, and short-term U.S. Treasuries.
The launch positions Fidelity against established players in the $308 billion stablecoin sector. The firm's president of Fidelity Digital Assets, Mike O'Reilly, stated that the product responds to client demand for low-cost payments and settlement infrastructure.
FIDD will be redeemable at $1 across Fidelity's crypto trading platforms and listed on major exchanges. Daily disclosure of coin issuance and reserve values will be published on Fidelity's website.
