FIFA's proposed $20 billion privatization plan has sparked rebellion from 143 member nations. The plan, known as FIFA Forward Enterprise, aims to raise funds by selling up to 20% stakes in major competitions, including the World Cup.

The opposition, led by CONCACAF, UEFA, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), represents a supermajority of FIFA's member associations. The three confederations have voiced concerns about governance and transparency, citing that they were informed through media reports rather than official channels.

CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani expressed frustration, stating that 'the problem isn't just the plan.' He emphasized that the issue is with FIFA's lack of consultation and transparency. The deadline for member approval is September 19, which gives FIFA seven weeks to either bring the rebels on board or face a potentially fatal no vote.

The $40 million per association carrot is significant, but many smaller nations are hesitant due to governance red flags. This may be where the coalition can crack, as individual federations weigh their options.
