FIFA's $20 Billion Plan for Private Investment Rejected by Powerful Confederations

FIFA President Gianni Infantino's plan to create a $20 billion subsidiary has been met with opposition from three powerful confederations. UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC have released a joint letter condemning the proposal, which would have seen FIFA's core revenue streams packaged into a new entity.

The FFE (FIFA Forward Enterprise) would have valued at roughly $20 billion, with private investors buying a 20-21% minority stake. However, the confederations argue that this plan lacks transparency and due process, and would give too much power to FIFA's central leadership.

Infantino unveiled the FFE concept in late July 2026, but the opposition was swift and coordinated. The European confederation UEFA went further by threatening to boycott all FIFA competitions if the FFE plan moved forward.

Infantino ultimately scrapped the FFE plan, but this move has not alleviated the pressure on him. Several national associations have retracted their endorsements for his re-election, citing concerns over governance and accountability.
