FIFA's Infantino Faces No-Confidence Vote from Regional Powerhouses
FIFA's president Gianni Infantino is facing a no-confidence vote from three powerful regional confederations, UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF. The move comes after Infantino withdrew his proposal for a new commercial subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprise, which was valued at $20 billion.
The plan aimed to create a new entity with minority stakes of up to 20% available for outside investors. However, it sparked concerns about governance and transparency among member associations, leading Infantino to pull the plug just three days after its introduction in late July.
FIFA's fifth vice-president Sándor Csányi has publicly withdrawn his confidence in Infantino, while several national federations have followed suit, including Wales and Finland. Mexico's federation remains a supporter of Infantino's re-election bid.
