Fink Sees Path to $700K for Bitcoin on Institutional Allocations
BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has made headlines by predicting that Bitcoin could reach $700,000 per coin. This prediction is based on a thought experiment in which institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds allocate just 2% to 5% of their portfolios to Bitcoin. The resulting demand would be enough to push prices to between $500,000 and $700,000.
Fink has framed Bitcoin as a digital analogue to gold, an asset for people worried about inflation and monetary policy eroding the purchasing power of their local currency. He noted that sovereign wealth funds collectively manage trillions of dollars, and even a modest percentage shift toward Bitcoin would represent a massive wave of capital entering a market with a fixed supply of 21 million coins.
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has become the largest Bitcoin ETF by assets under management. By December 31, 2025, IBIT held approximately 771,000 BTC, worth well north of $70 billion at prices above $100K. However, reaching $700K is not a foregone conclusion and requires that the world's largest pools of capital decide to allocate Bitcoin to their portfolios.
