Fintech Leaders Touting Blockchain-Powered Payments
Fintech leaders are celebrating World Fintech Day by highlighting the growing use of digital payments, blockchain, and data-driven lending in reshaping cross-border transactions and access to capital.
According to Anil Oncu, CEO of Bitpace, the industry has moved beyond experimentation and is now building infrastructure that supports everyday financial activity. Digital payments have replaced slower manual processes in consumer and business finance, with a focus shifting from speed alone to reliability, governance, and access for users who struggle with traditional banks.
Oncu believes blockchain technology and digital assets can remove even more friction from the movement of money. He notes that cross-border payments remain one of the biggest inefficiencies in global commerce, with businesses often waiting weeks for funds to settle or invoices to be paid. Blockchain-powered payments aim to improve existing infrastructure by enabling near real-time, transparent, and borderless value transfer.
The growth of stablecoins as a settlement option is also advancing alongside blockchain-based systems. Stablecoins are tied to reference assets such as fiat currencies and are being tested in treasury functions that require precise control over liquidity, compliance, and audit trails. Bob Stark, Global Head of Market Strategy at Kyriba, notes that the conversation around stablecoins is shifting from experimentation to corporate treasury use.
