Firmus Secures $2B for AI Infrastructure Expansion
Former Bitcoin miner Firmus has received $2 billion in fresh equity funding to support its AI infrastructure expansion. The company's valuation now exceeds $10.5 billion, nearly doubling from its previous level of $5.5 billion. This latest round brings Firmus' total equity funding over the past year to more than $3 billion.
The investment will accelerate Project Southgate in Australia and fund early expansion into Indonesia and other Asia-Pacific markets. Firmus plans to establish AI infrastructure based on Nvidia's DSX AI Factory Reference Architecture, which is designed to bring computing capacity online quickly while improving tokens per watt and system resiliency.
Nvidia, Coatue, Blackstone, and Jane Street participated in the funding round, with existing backers Coatue and Nvidia committing full investment. According to John Watson, Senior Managing Director at Blackstone, 'AI infrastructure will be a foundational driver of global growth, and it is among our highest conviction investment themes.'
