Firmus Secures $2B to Expand Beyond Bitcoin Mining with AI Infrastructure
Australia-based AI infrastructure company Firmus has secured $2 billion in strategic equity investment to expand its operations beyond Bitcoin mining. The funding round includes follow-on participation from NVIDIA and Coatue, alongside new investment from funds managed by Blackstone Tactical Opportunities.
The capital will accelerate the rollout of Firmus' Australian AI Factory while supporting preparations for expansion into other Asia-Pacific markets, including Indonesia. Firmus has already signed a multi-year agreement with a global technology company for approximately 18,400 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs at its Melbourne facility.
The company's infrastructure is built around NVIDIA's AI Factory reference architecture and its proprietary HyperCube platform. This combination of computing, cooling, power, and grid-aware software enables more efficient online deployment of AI capacity and improves tokens-per-watt performance.
