Flare Aims to Unlock 5 Billion XRP for DeFi
Flare Networks is gearing up for its largest XRPFi expansion yet, with upgrades expected to roll out within weeks. The company's CEO, Hugo Philion, predicts that the next six months will be transformative for XRPFi through Flare.
The goal is to add a missing DeFi layer to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) without changing its core. This will make it possible for users to engage in activities like lending, staking, and yield farming with XRP.
At the center of this plan is Flare's FAssets system, which allows XRP holders to mint FXRP at a 1:1 ratio and use it across various DeFi applications. The target is ambitious, up to 5 billion XRP could be brought into the ecosystem, roughly 5% of XRP's total supply.
Flare has already seen strong demand in its first phase, with $200 million in XRP TVL (Total Value Locked), over 3.4 million FXRP DeFi transactions, and around 16,500 users. The company is working to make the process easier for users and institutions through features like Flare Smart Accounts and Confidential Compute.
