Flare Unveils Ambitious Plan to Bring 5B XRP into DeFi
Flare Networks is gearing up for a major expansion of its XRPFi integration over the next six months, with CEO Hugo Philion announcing the plan on July 26. The goal is to bring XRP into programmable finance via FAssets and FXRP, aiming to attract up to 5 billion XRP (about 5% of supply) into DeFi.
Flare's current XRPFi phase has already shown promising traction, with around $200 million in XRP TVL, over 3.4 million FXRP transactions, and approximately 16,500 users. The company is also working on features like Smart Accounts and Confidential Compute to boost institutional adoption and reduce CEX-held supply.
Philion emphasized that the next six months will be transformative for XRPFi through Flare, stating, 'Starting in the next couple of weeks, the next 6 months are going to be transformative for XRPFi through Flare.' The expansion targets a key weakness of the XRP Ledger: its lack of native smart contracts.
By adding this DeFi layer without altering the core XRP Ledger itself, Flare hopes to increase token utility and adoption prospects despite XRP's 72% drop from its peak. This push could reduce CEX-held supply and expand crypto DeFi use cases.
