Flock Cameras Come to Grand Theft Auto V

A Grand Theft Auto V mod has brought simulated Flock surveillance cameras to Los Santos, giving players an added layer of police attention and something new to blow up. The Grand Theft Automated License Plate Reader, created by WTTDOTM, adds 235 cameras that photograph and track players and report in-game offenses to the authorities.

Players can destroy these devices throughout the fictional city and save the footage to share online. In a promotional video on TikTok, the modder called Flock a 'scourge on America,' referencing the company's large network of cameras across the country.

The mod is part of a long tradition of players modifying games to add features or change how they work, with the Flock camera mod joining community-built additions to popular games like Cyberpunk 2077. Critics have pointed out the potential for police misuse of the data collected by these cameras, as well as concerns over tracking people who are not suspected of crimes.
