Florida Judge Rejects Motion to Reconsider Crypto Sale Dispute Ruling

Share

A federal judge in Florida has denied a motion to reconsider a ruling in a cryptocurrency sale dispute. The co-founder of a cryptocurrency foundation company had filed the new motion, seeking to overturn a previous decision granting partial summary judgment to investors who sued the co-founder and the company.

The investors alleged that the defendants sold the cryptocurrency without filing a registration statement. The judge's earlier ruling relied on a joint interpretation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regarding the application of federal securities laws to certain types of crypto assets.

The co-founder's new motion argued that this joint interpretation constituted an intervening change in law, which would warrant reconsideration of the original order. However, the judge rejected this argument, finding no basis for re-examining the previous ruling.
