Florida Partners with Ripple, Brings XRP Logo to Football Field
Ripple, an American technology company that offers enterprise blockchain products on the XRP Ledger and other networks, has partnered with the University of Florida to put a logo for its cryptocurrency, XRP, on the field at Gator football games. The deal is worth $5 million a year for Florida and is expected to be one of the most lucrative in college football.
The partnership comes as a surprise to many fans, given that Ripple has been a recent target of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for selling unregistered XRP tokens. In 2024, Ripple paid a $125 million fine to settle the charges.
Despite the controversy surrounding Ripple, the University of Florida seems to be seeing dollar signs in the deal. The extra $5 million a year isn't being used to offset ticket costs or benefit the players directly, but rather as revenue for the athletic department.
