Fly Brain Simulation Trades Crypto with Mixed Results
A team of researchers has successfully mapped the brain of an adult male fruit fly, revealing its neural connections and sparking a series of unconventional experiments.
The digital equivalent of a fly's brain is now capable of trading Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDC, and Solana (SOL) on Coinbase through a simulation created by software engineer Alex Wormuth.
The fly's brain was mapped with 166,000 neurons and 125 million synaptic connections, making it the largest brain map by number of neurons to date. The research took 20 years to complete and aims to help scientists better understand complex behaviors and study conditions such as Alzheimer's, dementia, and schizophrenia.
Developers have taken the fly's brain and are using it for various purposes, including parallel parking a virtual car, solving a Rubik's Cube, and playing Beat Saber. One developer even 'turned the fly bisexual' by blocking its neural output and measuring spike responses to female and male fly brains.
