Fogo Halts Blockchain in Response to Massive Token Heist

Share

Fogo's blockchain was operating normally when it unexpectedly halted mainnet in response to an attack. On August 29, the Fogo Foundation reported that an attacker had received approximately 400 million FOGO tokens, which accounted for about 4% of the genesis supply and over 10% of the circulating supply.

The attackers' possession of such a large amount of tokens posed a significant threat to market order and the credibility of the network's launch economics. To address this issue, validators paused the chain and upgraded the network to prevent further movement of the assets.

Fogo's decision to halt the blockchain highlights the trade-off between decentralization and operational efficiency. The project has chosen to prioritize a narrower, managed validator system that can act decisively in emergency situations.
