Fold Slashes Bitcoin Holdings by 70% Amid $15.6M Operating Loss
Fold, a Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin financial services company, has sold a significant portion of its cryptocurrency holdings to address debt and operational costs. According to the latest data, Fold disposed of 832 BTC in the first half of 2026, resulting in a substantial reduction of its Bitcoin reserves for investment purposes.
The sales, which took place in February and June, generated $14.4 million and $44.7 million, respectively. A significant portion of the proceeds from the June sale, $20 million, was allocated towards repaying a Bitcoin-backed loan, leaving the company with $24.7 million in cash.
Fold's total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 271 BTC, including 77 BTC held separately for customer rewards. The company has reported an operating loss of $15.6 million in the first half, which may prompt further sales or share issuance to mitigate financial risks.
