Fortitude Energizes First Greenfield Facility in Nebraska Amidst Pivotal Moment for Bitcoin Mining
Fortitude, the mining subsidiary of Digital Currency Group (DCG), has powered up its first greenfield facility in Grand Island, Nebraska. The new site, which is part of a $10 million to $15 million investment, adds to Fortitude's existing portfolio and brings its total operating power capacity to 60 MW.
The choice of Nebraska was strategic, with the state offering competitive industrial electricity rates and a stable regulatory environment. The facility is also expected to help utilities balance grid demand, providing a stable interruptible load.
This expansion comes at a pivotal moment for Bitcoin mining, as the network's next halving in April 2024 will reduce block rewards from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, compressing margins for miners with higher power costs. Fortitude's expansion into lower-cost regions like Nebraska positions it to maintain operational efficiency post-halving.
