Fortitude Powers Up Nebraska Zcash Mining Facility Ahead of Public Listing
Zcash mining company Fortitude has expanded its owned power portfolio to over 60 megawatts with the completion of a new 12-megawatt facility in Grand Island, Nebraska. The greenfield data center, which is expected to reduce Fortitude's direct cash cost of mining Zcash by around 43%, will operate as an interruptible load that can reduce electricity consumption during periods of peak demand.
The facility, located between two solar generation facilities and next to a substation with excess capacity, will purchase electricity for approximately $0.045 per kilowatt-hour. This significant reduction in power costs is expected to lower Fortitude's direct cash cost of mining Zcash from around $70 per coin to roughly $40 per coin.
The company plans to list on the public market through its merger with HeartSciences (Nasdaq: HSCS), a publicly traded medical technology company. CEO Andrea Childs stated that owning and operating their own power assets is key to Fortitude's vertically integrated Zcash strategy, allowing them to control their power costs directly.
The Nebraska facility marks the first greenfield data center for Fortitude, which emerged from Digital Currency Group's mining division in January 2025. The company aims to reinvest its mining profits into new equipment and site acquisitions as it expands its infrastructure footprint.
