Foundry USA's Dominance Raises Concerns Over Bitcoin Security
As of May 2026, Foundry USA dominates the Bitcoin network with a hashrate of 242.1 EH/s, accounting for approximately 30 percent of the total hashashrate. This concentration of power is concerning as it creates a significant chokepoint for Bitcoin security. AntPool follows closely behind with a reported hashrate of 178.6 EH/s.
The top ten pools control over 95 percent of the total network hashashrate, leaving miners vulnerable to censorship due to the legacy Stratum V1 mining protocol. If a pool operator excludes specific addresses, the miners using that pool will help confirm those blocks.
According to data from January 2022, the United States held 37.84 percent of the global Bitcoin mining hashrate. Foundry USA uses the Full-Pay-Per-Share model to ensure miners receive rewards regardless of pool success, which helps maintain cash flow for facilities with high maintenance and staffing costs.
