France Becomes Epicenter of Violent Crypto Attacks
Crypto holders have lost over $30 million to violent attacks in the first half of 2026, according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis. This puts the year on pace to break last year's record of $58 million.
The majority of these attacks took place in France, where a tax agency data breach exposed records of wealthy crypto holders, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and account holdings.
Criminal groups are believed to have bought this information and used it to plan attacks. The number of violent incidents in France increased from 19 last year to 30 through mid-2026.
The French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has announced plans for a rapid alert system to protect people in the crypto industry who may be at risk.
