Freedom Factory Unveils Quantum-Resistant Hardware Wallet PQ1 for Ethereum
Freedom Factory has introduced the PQ1, a quantum-resistant hardware wallet designed for Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains. The device is priced at $179 and will ship in Q4 2026.
The PQ1's open-source firmware allows users to independently verify its security through an eight-word verification process. Freedom Factory is promoting the use of AI models like Claude and ChatGPT to facilitate this audit, making it more accessible to non-experts.
The wallet uses the SPHINCS+ signature algorithm, a post-quantum cryptographic standard recognized by NIST. This approach eliminates the need for elliptic curve cryptography, which is vulnerable to quantum computer attacks. The PQ1 also employs dual secure elements rated EAL6+, making it more secure than many existing hardware wallets.
While the PQ1 supports ERC-4337 and account abstraction features like social recovery and transaction batching, it does not support Bitcoin due to ecosystem limitations on post-quantum signature schemes.
