Frontier AI Models Leave Crypto Firms Vulnerable to Sophisticated Attacks
Crypto firms are struggling to access powerful new AI models that can help strengthen their code against attacks. Only a select few have been able to gain access, leaving others vulnerable to sophisticated cyber threats.
US crypto exchange Coinbase and Zcash's Zooko Wilcox were among the lucky ones, securing access to Anthropic's restricted Mythos model in June. However, other major players like Binance are still waiting in line.
Binance's chief security officer Jimmy Su expressed frustration with the limited access, saying 'That's one advanced frontier model that hasn't been made available to crypto just yet.' He added that his team has tried to make progress but so far, no luck.
The uneven access creates a new security divide in the industry, where exploits can put billions of dollars at risk. While Anthropic and OpenAI have chosen to restrict their most cyber-capable models from the public, there are concerns that open-source alternatives will leave crypto firms defenseless against AI-assisted attacks.
