Fruit Fly Brain Becomes Crypto Trader in Bizarre Experiment
A Coinbase software engineer has created an experiment called Stonkfly, where a virtual copy of a fruit fly's brain is used to make trading decisions based on a Bitcoin candlestick chart.
The simulated brain analyzes the image of the chart and makes choices using a reward system. Successful trades are reinforced by a burst of virtual dopamine.
The system is based on 166,700 neurons and about 25.6 million connections. It displays the chart as a small image and splits it between two artificial eyes.
Alex Wormuth, the engineer behind Stonkfly, emphasizes that changes in synapses do not yet mean that the virtual brain has actually mastered profitable trading.
