Fruit Fly Brain Turned Into Profitable Bitcoin Trader
A simulated fruit fly brain has been turned into a Bitcoin trader, and it's made a $1 profit so far. The experiment, called Stonkfly, was created by Coinbase software engineer Alex Wormuth using a digital simulation based on the neural wiring of an adult male fruit fly.
The system's trading decisions are based on neural activity, which is fed into simulated sensory inputs that correspond to neurons in the visual system of the insect. If the portfolio makes money, 15 identified PAM11 dopamine neurons get stimulated; if it loses money, two PPL101 neurons associated with aversive signaling get activated.
This is not the first time a fly-brain simulation has been used for trading. Wormuth previously created DOOMFLY, which connects the same MaleCNS model to the classic video game Doom. Other developers have also connected fly-connectome simulations to games like Beat Saber and Minecraft.
