FSA Slams CryptoPawn Operator Over Unregistered Yen Lending
Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) has issued a warning to BitHills, the operator of CryptoPawn, over unregistered lending operations. The service allows users to deposit digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ether as collateral to borrow Japanese yen. However, the FSA found that BitHills was conducting moneylending business without separate authorization.
The agency warned BitHills for engaging in unregistered activities, raising questions over possible links between CryptoPawn and IZAKA-YA, a digital-asset service embroiled in a recent withdrawal halt controversy. Although no connection between the operators of the two services has been confirmed, users were able to sign up for IZAKA-YA through CryptoPawn's official blog.
The FSA's warning is a significant development in Japan's regulatory landscape, which has been increasingly scrutinizing crypto-related activities. The agency's move highlights the importance of complying with regulations and obtaining necessary authorizations before engaging in lending or other financial services.
