FTX Repayments Trigger Altcoin Market Speculation
FTX creditors are set to receive their long-awaited repayments starting February 18. The initial disbursement targets smaller creditors with claims of $50,000 or less, who will receive their full due plus a 9% annual interest from November 2022. This amounts to approximately $1.2 billion in total payouts.
The repayments could have a significant impact on the cryptocurrency market, particularly if distributed in digital currencies and subsequently sold. Analyst Excavo predicts that this could exert downward pressure on the market, although most funds are expected to be disbursed in cash.
Excavo suggests that the majority of these funds might favor the altcoin market, potentially leading to an influx of investments into Ethereum staking ETFs and other altcoins such as Cardano, Dogecoin, XRP, and Solana. Historically, liquidity has rotated poorly into altcoins, leaving many undervalued.
The anticipated FTX repayments exceed $16 billion, predominantly in cash. If reinvested in the market, this capital influx could elevate buying pressure and align with bullish investor sentiment. Members of the Reddit crypto community have expressed eagerness to reinject their FTX recoveries into the industry, with one member stating 'It's all getting degen'd straight back into crypto.'
