Galaxy Digital Builds Massive AI-Focused Data Center Campus in Texas
Galaxy Digital is expanding its presence in Texas with a massive new data center campus focused on AI and high-performance computing. The company acquired nearly 500 acres of land in McGregor, Texas for over $7 million to build a facility that will deliver 74 MW of power capacity initially, with room to scale significantly beyond that.
The project, dubbed Project Merlin, received approval from the McGregor City Council in a 5-1 vote and is expected to create more than 30 full-time local jobs with average salaries exceeding $60,000. Galaxy will invest over $400 million into six to eight data center buildings on the site.
This marks the latest development in Galaxy's pivot from Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure. The company already operates a facility in Dickens County, Texas known as Helios, which spans over 1,500 acres and boasts more than 1.6 GW of approved ERCOT power capacity. Galaxy plans to use closed-loop cooling systems at Project Merlin to minimize water consumption.
