Galaxy Digital Launches $5M Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative
Galaxy Digital has launched its Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative, committing up to $5 million to help prepare the Bitcoin network for potential threats from quantum computing. The program will support developers building post-quantum cryptographic solutions and fund research into how quantum technology could affect Bitcoin's security model.
The initiative is designed to encourage early research and development, allowing the ecosystem to explore practical solutions before potential risks materialize. Galaxy Research will publish studies examining the evolving quantum landscape and its implications for Bitcoin, while the Quantum Advisory Council will review proposals and help prioritize projects with the greatest potential impact.
The Quantum Advisory Council includes experts from institutions such as the University of Calgary, MIT, and Boston University, bringing together decades of experience in mathematics, cybersecurity, and quantum research. Their responsibilities extend beyond reviewing grant applications, as they will also help identify priority research areas, evaluate the feasibility of proposed solutions, and ensure funded projects align with Bitcoin's decentralized design principles.
The program forms a more coordinated approach than isolated development efforts, encouraging collaboration between academics, open-source developers, and industry participants. By supporting multiple initiatives simultaneously, the program aims to accelerate innovation while building a stronger foundation for Bitcoin's long-term cryptographic resilience.
