Garlinghouse Seeks Clear Crypto Regulations to Cement US Leadership
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is urging US policymakers to establish clear and comprehensive regulations for cryptocurrencies, which he believes will make America the global leader in crypto.
Garlinghouse emphasized that making the US the world's crypto capital is achievable if lawmakers deliver federal rules governing the sector. He noted that the current patchwork of unclear policies has limited the industry's development and hindered the US's ability to compete internationally.
The US has played a significant role in the global digital asset sector, with Chainalysis data showing it accounted for 22% or more of global on-chain activity in 2024. Achieving formal crypto capital status could strengthen the US position further by spurring institutional adoption and increasing spot ETF inflows.
The push for regulatory clarity is reflected in recent legislative efforts, including the Clarity Act, which seeks to define the legal status of digital assets and clarify the responsibilities of agencies overseeing the sector. If these initiatives succeed, the US could formalize its role as a global standard-setter, attracting further investment and talent.
