Garzik: 99% of Digital Assets Will Go to Zero
Jeff Garzik, an early Bitcoin Core developer, has a stark prediction for the future of digital assets. In an interview on July 28, 2026, he stated that 99% of digital assets will eventually go to zero.
The reasoning behind this claim is rooted in the concept of supply and demand. Garzik points out that networks like Solana can create tens of thousands of new tokens daily with essentially zero creation cost. This has led to a flood of speculative shells that never develop a user base or liquidity, with over 80,000 tokens created on Solana in a single 24-hour window.
Despite the dire outlook for most digital assets, Garzik believes that this process is actually beneficial for the industry as a whole. He sees it as a market-clearing mechanism, where only the strongest and most innovative projects will survive. According to him, the high-quality survivors will benefit everyone, allowing bad ideas to fail quickly so good ones can thrive.
