Gate Io Exchange Abandons Ruble Trading Amid Regulatory Pressure

Share

The cryptocurrency exchange Gate Io has announced that it will no longer be supporting ruble trading, citing non-compliance with regulatory requirements and risk management standards. The decision was made on July 1, 2026, and P2P trading has been closed as a result. This move is likely due to low liquidity in the trading pair and pressure from sanctions.

Gate Io's new compliance policy also introduces other restrictions, including reducing leverage for some liquid futures pairs. Certain assets are now unavailable for trade, with traders receiving notifications stating that 'for regulatory reasons, this service is unavailable in your region.'

The company has not explicitly stated whether these restrictions apply to all clients or only those based in Russia, but it's likely that Russian traders will be affected.

In the EU, Gate Io had previously limited traders' capabilities by reducing leverage and closing access to illiquid assets. The company may now be extending this policy to its Russian clients.
