Gemini Co-Founders Send $10M in Bitcoin to Trump Super PAC Amid CFTC Settlement
The Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss sent $10 million in Bitcoin to a super political action committee (PAC) supporting President Donald Trump. The donation, recorded on June 19, was made two weeks after the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) joint motion with Gemini in federal court to reverse a January 2025 settlement over false or misleading statements.
The CFTC had previously fined Gemini $5 million, which it may not receive if granted by the court. The Winklevoss brothers also donated $1 million each to Trump's 2024 election campaign and supported his crypto policy efforts through social media posts.
Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed concern over the joint motion for reversal in a June letter, calling it a sign of the CFTC being beholden to political pressures. The CFTC Chair Michael Selig remains the sole commissioner with no nominations announced despite Congress considering comprehensive crypto market structure legislation.
