Gemini Secures MPI License from Monetary Authority of Singapore
Crypto exchange Gemini has secured a Major Payment Institution (MPI) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), solidifying its position in the country's financial landscape.
The license was granted to Gemini Digital Payments Singapore, the company's local entity. This authorization enables it to provide regulated payment services without transaction-volume limits, although MAS emphasizes that major payment institutions face more comprehensive regulation due to their larger scale and associated risks.
Gemini has been serving customers in Singapore since 2020, with its President and co-founder Cameron Winklevoss highlighting the country's strategic importance as a hub for retail and institutional clients. The company offers spot crypto trading, digital asset custody, and over-the-counter services in Singapore.
