Gemini Wins Full MPI License in Singapore After Nearly Two Years
Gemini has secured a Major Payment Institution license from Singapore's Monetary Authority (MAS) after nearly two years of approval processing.
The license, granted on September 9, allows Gemini Digital Payments Singapore to provide regulated cryptocurrency and cross-border transfer services locally. This includes spot trading, custody, and over-the-counter services through its licensed local operation.
Gemini had operated in the country since 2020 and underwent a transition of its Singapore customers from U.S.-based Gemini Trust Company to Gemini Digital Payments Singapore in April 2025, while awaiting full authorization. The final license ends Gemini's reliance on an exempt arrangement for approved activities and places responsibility directly with the local entity.
Cameron Winklevoss, President of Gemini, stated that the approval 'validates' the company's investment in Singapore, calling it a strategic hub for serving retail and institutional customers. Tyler Winklevoss, CEO, described the country as a key location for regional expansion.
