Gemini Wins Major Payment Institution License in Singapore

Share

Gemini has secured a Major Payment Institution (MPI) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, allowing it to provide digital payment token and cross-border money transfer services in the country. The license was granted on September 9, after an approval process that lasted almost two years.

The MPI license removes standard transaction-volume limits for Gemini, but comes with broader regulatory obligations. The company had operated in Singapore since 2020 and transferred its customers to a locally incorporated entity in April 2025, ahead of the licensing process.

Gemini President Cameron Winklevoss stated that the approval 'validates' the company's investment in Singapore, while CEO Tyler Winklevoss described it as a strategic hub for serving both retail and institutional customers. The company currently offers spot cryptocurrency trading, custody, and over-the-counter services through its licensed local operation.
