Gen Z Crypto Ownership Hits Record High: Over Half Now Own or Have Owned Cryptocurrency

Share

A new survey conducted by Gemini has revealed that over half of Gen Z adults worldwide now own or have owned cryptocurrency. The findings come from the company's 2024 State of Crypto Report, which polled 6,000 adults across the United States, United Kingdom, France, Singapore and Turkey.

The survey found that among Gen Z respondents aged 18 to 29, 51% said they own or have previously owned cryptocurrency. This figure is significantly higher than the 35% reported by the general population.

In the U.S., Gen Z ownership matched 51%, ahead of Millennials at 49% and Gen X at 29%. One in three U.S. Gen Z respondents also said they would feel comfortable putting at least 5% of their portfolio into crypto, compared to 21% of the broader population.

The survey also highlighted differences in attitudes towards regulation and investment goals between Gen Z and older age groups. While nearly half of Gen Z respondents globally said they invest in crypto to generate income, only 31% strongly agreed that the industry needs more government regulation.
