Gen Z on Binance Favors ETFs and Buy-and-Hold Strategy
Gen Z investors on Binance are increasingly favoring exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and adopting a buy-and-hold strategy, according to recent data. In early August, ETF allocations made up 25% of Gen Z equity trading volume, up from 21.9% the previous month and 18.5% in June.
This shift is part of a broader trend where younger investors are rotating into ETFs, with 21.9% of Gen Z equity net flow directed toward unleveraged ETFs in July and 25% in early August. Meanwhile, individual company stocks saw their proportion decline from 77% in June to 74.2% by July.
In terms of trading frequency, Gen Z investors completed an average of 13 monthly transactions in traditional finance (TradFi) perpetual contracts, significantly lower than Millennials' 17 trades and Gen X's 16.5. Within direct-equity portfolios, 22% of Gen Z investors had not executed a single sell transaction, compared to 19% for Gen X and 9% among Baby Boomers.
The most popular holdings among Gen Z buy-only portfolios included Broadcom, Tesla, and the Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF. Binance's bStocks temporarily surpassed Kraken's xStocks as the second-largest tokenized equity platform before falling back to third place. The overall market has experienced substantial user base expansion, with holder counts across five leading tokenized stock platforms surging 92% within 30 days.
