Georgia Authorities Reclaim Stolen Cryptocurrency From Elderly Couple Scammers

Share

An elderly Georgia couple was targeted by scammers who convinced them to transfer their money into a cryptocurrency kiosk, claiming it was for security reasons. The scammer pretended to be from the Federal Trade Commission and stayed on the phone with the victims to avoid detection.

However, authorities were able to track the cryptocurrency through multiple wallets and seize it. A court ordered the funds to be returned to the victims.

The Attorney General's Office said its White Collar and Cyber Crime Unit worked with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office to recover the stolen money. The unit is dedicated to disrupting crypto scams, tracing transactions, and recovering stolen funds.
