Gerber Warns Saylor's Strategy Could Crash Bitcoin
Ross Gerber, CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, has expressed concern over Michael Saylor's leveraged accumulation strategy for his company, MSTR. According to Gerber, this strategy could pose a systemic threat to Bitcoin due to its debt structure.
The mechanism behind the criticism is that if Strategy's debt were to unwind, the resulting selling pressure on the market could be severe. Gerber described it as 'nuke.'
MSTR raises capital by issuing shares, which dilutes shareholders and allows the company to buy more BTC. The result is a premium of 1.61x for MSTR stock compared to its Bitcoin holdings, which Gerber considers unsustainable.
In the event of a severe Bitcoin correction, historically well-documented drawdowns of 70-80% have occurred in this market, Strategy's debt structure could force asset sales, amplifying the decline in BTC and creating a self-reinforcing downward spiral. This is a classic cascade liquidation scenario.
