German Central Bank Deploys Prividium for Secure Cross-Border Payments
The German Central Bank (Deutsche Bundesbank) has deployed Prividium in its systems to facilitate cross-border payments. Prividium is a software framework developed by Matter Labs, which utilizes the second-layer network of Ethereum's ZKsync. This implementation allows financial institutions to operate private and permissioned networks, maintaining data privacy while verifying operations through cryptographic zero-knowledge proofs.
The announcement was made on September 8, 2026, alongside the release of the Prividium permission engine code. This code defines which users can interact with the system, ensuring that financial entities maintain control over their rules and protect confidential information. Alex Gluchowski, CEO of Matter Labs, emphasized that institutions should not have to choose between adopting new infrastructure and maintaining control.
