Germany Dominates EU Crypto Licensing with Six New MiCA Additions
Germany continues to lead the European Union in crypto-asset service provider licenses under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The latest update from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) adds six new firms, bringing the total number of licensed entities to 331.
The MiCA regime, which came into full effect in December 2024, provides a harmonized legal framework for crypto businesses operating across the EU. This allows companies to passport their services throughout the bloc without needing separate approvals in each country.
Germany's cooperative banks are among the latest additions, reflecting a broader trend of traditional financial institutions seeking regulatory clarity in the digital asset space. The fact that these conservative lenders are entering the crypto market suggests growing acceptance of digital assets as a legitimate asset class among mainstream financial players.
