Geyser Blocks Cuba Bitcoin Project Over Sanctions Fears
A project aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption in Cuba has hit a roadblock due to US sanction compliance. Geyser, a crowdfunding platform that allows users to present bitcoin-linked initiatives for international funding, rejected the project citing 'wallet sanction check failed' as the reason.
The rejection comes despite efforts by the Cuban government to open up the economy and facilitate financial transactions. Cuba Bitcoin, a community of bitcoiners that fosters crypto adoption and provides infrastructure to Cubans, lamented the development and called for a new crowdfunding platform that reflects Bitcoin values.
According to Geyser's CEO Michele Morucci, the company was founded on the principle of bringing access to capital worldwide but must comply with regulatory requirements. The platform lists Cuba as one of several sanctioned countries where services are not available.
