Glamsterdam Delayed: Ethereum Upgrade Schedule Pushed Back

Ethereum's next major network upgrade, Glamsterdam, has been delayed until the fourth quarter of 2026. This is a setback from previous plans that aimed for a first-half release in 2026.

The Ethereum Foundation initially expected to roll out Glamsterdam and its follow-up upgrade, Hegotá, in the same year. However, developers have started narrowing down the scope of Hegotá, which is now targeting a 2027 release.

A new public testnet, Plåtåberget, has been launched for Glamsterdam, and it will run for several months before expanding validation to other testnets. This allows developers to verify upgrade impacts in a relatively stable environment, as some applications may experience compatibility issues during the rollout.
