Glamsterdam Hard Fork: Ethereum Introduces New Gas Fee Structure for New Addresses
The Ethereum Foundation has issued a warning to developers ahead of the upcoming Glamsterdam hard fork. This change will affect how gas fees are calculated for new ETH addresses, requiring an additional state gas fee.
Transfers to existing addresses still require 21,000 gas, but transfers to new addresses will incur an extra 183,600 gas due to the creation and storage of new state data.
This change is part of a broader effort to align transaction fees with actual network resources consumed. Developers are urged to update their fee estimation algorithms to include the state gas fee for new address transfers.
