Glamsterdam Targets Ethereum's Gas Limit Hike Amid AlphaPepe Retail Infrastructure Push
Glamsterdam is targeting a significant upgrade for Ethereum's mainnet capacity by aiming to increase its gas limit to 200 million. This move could potentially support more activity across various sectors, including stablecoins, decentralized finance (DeFi), tokenized assets, payments, and consumer applications.
The proposed upgrade would allow for larger blocks on the network, which can process more transactions and complex smart-contract interactions directly on mainnet. This increase in capacity can benefit DeFi exchanges, stablecoins, tokenized assets, games, and other applications that require frequent on-chain activity.
However, this upgrade comes with technical trade-offs, including increased hardware, bandwidth, and storage requirements for validators. To mitigate these effects, Glamsterdam must work alongside Layer 2 scaling solutions rather than fragmenting users and liquidity further.
