Glassnode Opens On-Chain Data to AI Agents via x402 Payment Standard
Until recently, getting professional on-chain data into an AI assistant was a cumbersome process. To access this information, users had to create an account, choose a plan, generate an API key, and paste it into a config file. However, agents cannot easily sign up for these services.
Glassnode has introduced support for x402, an open payment standard created by Coinbase and governed by the x402 Foundation under the Linux Foundation. This allows users to access Glassnode's data catalog without needing an API key or subscription.
With x402, agents can pay for data in USDC directly from their wallet. The cost is a flat $0.05 per metric call and $0.01 per metadata call. Users can query single values or ask more complex questions that require multiple metrics to answer.
The integration works with any agent interface that supports the MCP protocol, including Claude and other chat assistants. Glassnode's data catalog is published as a machine-readable skill file, allowing agents to discover what exists and what it costs without human intervention.
