Global Institutional Adoption May Determine Bitcoin Cycle Peak
CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju believes that the peak of the current Bitcoin bull cycle may depend on global institutional and spot ETF adoption. According to him, while the U.S. has led institutional investment in Bitcoin so far, other countries are likely to expand their participation in the coming years.
Ju noted that the United States was the first country to approve spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024, but other regions such as Asia and Europe are still developing similar products and infrastructure. He emphasized that if restrictions on spot Bitcoin ETFs were lifted in countries like South Korea, more institutions would likely hold Bitcoin.
Ju's analogy for when the market might reach its zenith is when a South Korean regional bank employee recommends a spot Bitcoin ETF to a grandmother as a savings product. This statement highlights the idea that widespread retail and institutional acceptance, especially in traditionally conservative financial sectors, could mark the final phase of the current bull run.
Ju's comments highlight the potential for new institutional capital from regions like South Korea, Japan, and Europe to provide sustained upward pressure on prices. However, delays in regulatory approvals or a lack of infrastructure development could temper expectations.
