GMO Coin Prepares for Possible Bitcoin Service Freeze Ahead of eCash Snapshot
The eCash project is set to take its first balance snapshot at block 963,648, which is expected around midnight Japan time on Aug. 23. This event may trigger a pause in several Bitcoin services on GMO Coin, including spot trading through its dealer and exchange services, BTC/JPY crypto FX, leveraged trading, and deposits and withdrawals.
The exchange has not set suspension times for the potential freeze, but customers have been given a decision point. GMO's Aug. 7 notice stated that any suspension remains conditional and that both start and end times are undecided.
eCash is a new Bitcoin-derived chain that plans to credit holders with a separate ECX asset. The project's live roadmap now describes this weekend's event as an Alpha stage issuing practice ECX, rather than the final mainnet launch.
