Gold and BTC Prices Recover Amid Market Uncertainty
The market for gold and Bitcoin has been recovering from bear markets, making them worth considering as investments. Gold's price increased by over 156% to its all-time high in January but then plummeted more than 25% to its year-to-date low in mid-July due to profit-taking and market uncertainty.
However, the ongoing war between the US and Iran has led to an increase in equity volatility and energy market uncertainty. Consumer prices are hurting major retailers like Walmart and Home Depot, while the US dollar remains near its lowest levels since the COVID pandemic and is down 13% from its five-year high.
Gold's price has risen more than 17% from its YTD low in mid-July and is now around 13% lower than its ATH. The GDX ETF, which tracks the MarketVector Global Gold Miners Index, has gained around 40% over the past month while gold prices have gained more than 16%. This fund provides exposure to gold miners alongside an income component, with a dividend yield of 0.6%.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin's market cap has shrunk to around $1.59 trillion since hitting its ATH in October 2025. However, the market remains down around 36% from that record high and investors can take advantage of spot Bitcoin ETFs like IBIT, which tracks BTC prices and has a net expense ratio of 0.25%. Over the past month, Bitcoin has rallied more than 23%, reaching its highest prices since mid-May.
